(Ep. 21) PROVE THEM WRONG
Have you heard of Helen Paul, the famous Nigerian comedienne with the little baby's voice. She is not just a comedienne but also an actress, singer and now a professor who has bagged multiple degrees.
Rejected, now Accepted
If you have never heard about Helen Paul's life story, maybe you should look it up here. She grew up as an unwanted child, born out of wedlock. Even her relatives detested her and called her all sorts of names.
Today, she is a notable comedienne, actress, singer and has bagged several degrees and awards including different masters degrees and PhD. Today, those who despised her now want to be associated with her.
A Strong Source of Motivation
Here is one source of motivation that I've come to develop over time. I'm sure you will learn from it too.
Whenever someone tells me that I can't achieve something that I put my mind to, I do my best to prove them wrong. I find some uncommon energy created in me to push towards my goals. I find myself going the extra mile to prove them wrong.
The Naysayers
Yesterday, I told you to make your parents proud. However, I've found people who think that their parents are not worth being made proud.
They might have grown up having no one believe in them or even discourage them from being what they dream of. They may have had people scorn at their dreams and ambitions. They might have had people, including family members, who never believed anything good to come out of them.
There are actually people like that. You could be one of them. You may have found people who believe that you will amount to nothing. Or people who refused to invest in your education because they think that you would do better off outside school. There might have been people who think that it was better to get you married off, as a young lady, instead of sending you to school. Some may have called you names. The list can go on.
Just Prove Them Wrong
Instead of allowing those statements weigh you down and cause you serious depression, I'll advise you to take that as your own motivation to succeed.
Prove them wrong. As a student, you have an opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong. Not just by rejecting their wishes and doing nothing. Study hard and become somebody. Go the extra mile to study, not just for exams, but to gain enough knowledge to become somebody. In future, they will come to identify with you.
You can be whatever you put your mind to. No one can stop you, except you stop yourself. Remember again to put God first. With God, you can achieve everything you set your heart to.
"Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?"; Lamentations 3: 37
Now that you are a student, prove the naysayers wrong.
I am rooting for you.
✌️ 💕
