(Ep. 32) Now That You are a Student: 7 Essential Things to Know as a Freshman

Hey! Congratulations!

You are now a student!

You prayed for this; you dreamt of this and now you have just started living out your dream

Whether you have already resumed your first semester or you are about to resume, here are 7 Essential things you must know as a freshman in school:

1. Time Management is so important

You must be able to use your time judiciously. This is to enable you catch up with classes, assignments, library sessions, projects, your social and spiritual life, etc. Shun procrastination. Avoid last minute stress.

2. Campus is not for Children; Take Responsibility

Yes, I get it. You may not even be up to 18. Or maybe you're above 18. But remember that as long as you are in Campus, you are not expected to still be a child. I'm not taking about age here. Children are always reminded to read. Children pursue pleasure instead of choosing discipline to face their works. Children don't take responsibility. Don't be a child. Remember that you are solely responsible for your choices, your grades and whatever you become from school. So, man up.

3. Start Studying from Day One

Yes. From day one. This will give you an edge over your colleagues and help you reduce last minute stress. You are more likely to come out on top of the class if you take your studies more seriously from Day One

4. Choose Your Associations Wisely.

On Campus, you will meet the good, the bad and the ugly. The friends and company you keep is completely your choice. The end result is also completely your choice. What you sow is what you reap. Choose wisely.

5. Balance Your Academic, Social and Spiritual Lives.

Campus is not only for academic activities. There are other good social activities that you can engage in. There are sports activities, personal developmental clubs, etc. Join those which align with your passion and goals. Shun cultism.

Also take care of your spiritual life. Join a good Christian fellowship and be active therein. I joined the Watchman Catholic Charismatic Campus Fellowship (WCCCF) as a student, and it did me a lot of good spiritually, academically and in all areas of my life.

If you are not born again, get born again today and follow Jesus bumper to bumper. It will save you a load of headaches on Campus. I bet you.

In all, don't allow your academics to suffer. Remember why you came here.

6. Prioritize your Health

This is very important. Your health is key. Eat well. Eat balanced diet. Don't waste your money on junks. Exercise regularly. Seek medical advice early in case of health issues, including mental case like depression. Don't die in silence.

7. Have a Goal and Always Keep it in View.

What's your goal? What grade do you want to come out with? What kind of student do you want to be? Write it down. Write down your short and long term goals. Keep them where you can always see them. You can paste them on the wall of your room. Work towards them.

The sky will be your starting point.

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Galatians 6:7
