(Ep. 48) Campus Discipline: Waking Up Early & Planning Your Day

One thing that Campus life will teach you is the habit of waking up early...!

If you eventually settle in very busy cities, like Lagos, you will thank God that the Campus trained you to wake up early. But that is if you are disciplined enough to allow yourself to be trained, though.

Disciplined and successful students are able to manage time wisely. And nothing demonstrates this better than the habit of waking up early and planning your day.

On campus, where freedom often comes with countless distractions, mastering these two habits can make the difference between chaos and productivity.

🌅 Why Waking Up Early Matters

When you wake up early, you give yourself a head start on the day. The early hours are quiet, calm, and free from the rush and noise of campus life. It’s a perfect time to pray, think clearly, and plan ahead before lectures and other activities begin.

Students who wake up late often rush through the morning, skip breakfast, and enter class already feeling stressed or disorganized.

On the other hand, early risers enjoy a sense of control — they move through the day with purpose and calm.

Waking up early also helps you make time for things that matter but often get ignored. These include personal devotion, exercise, or even reading ahead for class.

Over time, it sharpens your focus, builds consistency, and improves your academic and spiritual life.

🗓️ The Power of Planning Your Day Ahead

A day without a plan is like a journey without a map — you might move around a lot but end up nowhere. Planning helps you use your time intentionally.

Before stepping out of your room, take five to ten minutes to write down your schedule:

  • What classes or lectures do you have today?
  • What assignments or readings are due?
  • What personal goals do you want to achieve by the end of the day?

You can even divide your day into three parts:

  • Morning (Focus Tasks),
  • Afternoon (Classes/Group Work),
  • Evening (Review & Rest).

When you plan, you don’t just react to the day — you direct it. You become in charge of the day.

💡 How to Build These Habits

1. Sleep early: Discipline at night determines success in the morning.

2. Use an alarm clock — and place it far from your bed. Do you know why? Tell me in the comments

3. Start with small goals. Wake up 15 minutes earlier each week until it becomes natural.

4. Write your daily plan the night before.

5. Pray before you start your day. Commit your activities to God and ask for strength and wisdom.

With time, you find that you get used to these habits. Your future self will thank you.

In Conclusion

Waking early and planning your day is not just about academics — it’s about order, stewardship, and spiritual growth. A disciplined student becomes a dependable person and that discipline often starts from how you begin each day.

“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly", Psalm 5:3 (NIV)
