(Ep 54) From Idea to Impact: One Year of The Spectacular Student Blog and Where We Are Headed

Hurray… πŸ’ πŸ’

It’s one year already, people!

One year ago, I pressed “post” without knowing it would grow into something bigger than an idea—something that would impact hundreds of students and shape my own journey as well.

What started as a simple idea has gradually become a movement with visible impact.

This is the story of The Spectacular Student Blog. I promise to lay everything bare here, as honestly as possible.

How the Blog Started

Firstly, I would like to say that I have always been a lover of students and of academic excellence.

Around 2024, while working at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex—precisely at the Wesley Guild Hospital Unit, Ilesa—I made a post about the University of Ilesa.

The post was simply to inform people that the university was accepting applications for admission and that its education degrees were tuition-free.

I never expected it to go viral. But it did.

Within days, I began receiving almost a hundred calls daily from interested applicants. It became overwhelming, so I created a WhatsApp group to reduce the burden of repeatedly explaining things over phone calls.

In just a few days, nearly one thousand people had joined the group.

I provided every necessary piece of information required to gain admission into the university. Importantly, I refused any form of monetary reward from beneficiaries.

Eventually, over 100 people applied—and many of them gained admission.

Then a question struck me: After admission, what next?

The Birth of a Bigger Vision

I began to think deeply about how I could spur these students toward academic excellence while also keeping them grounded in godliness.

This led to the creation of a WhatsApp group where I shared daily insights on how to become an outstanding, well-rounded student.

Why the Blog Started

When this initiative began around December 2024, the platform was titled “Now That You Are a Student.”

The aim was simple and clear:

1. To spur students toward academic excellence by teaching them strategic ways to become spectacular students.

2. To preach Christ as the author of excellence and remind students to anchor their success in God and a life of godliness.

At its core, The Spectacular Student Blog exists to raise students who pursue excellence while still being grounded their faith in Christ.

From WhatsApp to Blogger

Towards the end of 2024, I met a junior colleague, Dr. Omolawal (PT), who runs a blog on Blogger titled The Physio Diary.

I asked her how she did it, and she generously taught me how to use Blogger.
That conversation became one of my New Year goals.

On January 1st, 2025, I published my very first post on Blogger under the blog name “Now That You Are a Student.”

The Change in Name

Around September 2025, I changed the blog’s name to “The Spectacular Student.”

The reason was simple: I wanted a name that was shorter, easier to remember, and more brand-friendly.

The Journey So Far

So far, we have published about 55 posts since January 2025.

In just one year, the blog has recorded almost 14,000 reads, with readers from nearly every continent of the world.

Nigeria, the United States, and the United Kingdom currently top the list of countries with the highest readership.

I've had students message me of the impact the blog has had on their lives.

The impact keeps spreading—far beyond what I initially imagined.

The Struggles Behind the Scenes

Perhaps our biggest struggle has been showing up consistently.

Wow… all I can say is that consistency is not easy.

I remember starting out on January 1st with the goal of posting daily. Interestingly, by February, I was already running out of ideas.

I skipped one day.

Then two days.

And gradually, I stopped posting altogether—for almost seven months.

I resumed in September, restrategised, and although it hasn’t been easy, I have managed to keep showing up.

Despite the long break, we still reached nearly 14,000 reads within the year—and for that, I am deeply grateful.

Where We Are Headed

We have a lot planned for the coming year.

Most importantly, we aim to maintain a consistent weekly post, with room for more when the occasion demands.

We are also looking toward building a team of writers for this blog.

In addition, we plan to increase the blog’s reach within campuses across Nigeria and beyond. This will involve partnerships with students, staff, and institutions of learning.

And yes—our first book from this blog will be released next year.
I probably shouldn’t have said that—it was meant to be a surprise—but you heard it here first.

Clearly, 2026 is going to be a great year.

Lessons From One Year

1. Just Start

This is perhaps the biggest lesson of all. When you have a vision, start. Don’t wait for perfection. As a natural perfectionist, this is a lesson I am still learning.

2. If You Miss One Day, Don’t Miss the Next

Missing one day can be excused. Missing the next one reinforces the break and can completely derail consistency. This was one of the reasons behind my seven-month hiatus.

3. Learn to Ask for Help

This blog moved forward because I asked for help. Even though the colleague I learned from was junior to me, I asked anyway. Never be ashamed to ask for help.

We strongly believe that we are headed for greater heights with this initiative. With God on our side, we can—and will—do more.

Most importantly, thank you for going on this journey with us.

“Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak…”

Now over to you—what did you learn from my story?

If this has inspired you, share it with your friends to get inspired too.

Happy New Year  to you.
