(Ep. 52) Mid-Month Motivation: Never Ever Give Up

Perhaps one of the most motivating stories I have ever heard was shared around 2012 by one of my pastors, Pastor Nnamdi Onwugaje. He was speaking to teenagers who were graduating from the Youth Church into the Adult Church at the Watchman Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement, Lagos.

He told us about a convocation ceremony where graduating students were seated, filled with excitement and expectation. When it was time for the guest speaker—likely a professor—to address them, he mounted the podium and stood still, staring at the audience with a serious expression. The hall became quiet. Everyone expected him to begin speaking immediately, yet he remained silent.

After a long pause, he finally spoke with deep conviction:

“Never, ever give up.”

He paused. Looked around the hall. Repeated the statement.

“Never, ever give up.”

Again and again, he repeated the same words—slowly, deliberately, and passionately. Then, without adding anything else, he dropped the microphone and returned to his seat.

It was probably the most unexpected speech those students had ever heard. Yet, the lesson from that moment stayed with them—and would remain with them for life.

Life Will Test You

Life will test you. It will test your strength, your patience, your resilience, and your agility. Life will push you to your limits. But it is in the fire that true gold is revealed. It is during these difficult moments that the real you comes to light.

Challenges expose whether we are chicken-hearted or lion-hearted—whether we shrink back or rise up.

You must never give up!

As a person, never give up in life. As a student, never give up.

If in the past year you failed to reach your goals, try again. And if you fail again, try again—until you achieve what you set out to do. Life has a way of opening doors for those who are courageous enough to keep knocking.

Thomas Edison reportedly failed 999 times before succeeding on the 1000th attempt. His story reminds us that failure is not falling down; failure is refusing to rise again.

Those who truly fail are not those who stumble and fall, but those who stay on the ground.

As this year winds down, I encourage you: NEVER EVER GIVE UP!

"For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief." Proverbs 24:16

Let's meet at the top!

Now tell me in the comments, what did you learn from this piece
