(Ep 57) One Night to Your Exam: 7 Smart Things Every Student Should Do



For many students, the night before an exam is often filled with tension and anxiety. Some begin to panic, others attempt to read everything at once, and a few lose confidence in themselves. However, what you do the night before your exam can significantly influence how well you perform.

The goal of the night before an exam is not to learn everything from the beginning but to prepare your mind, strengthen what you already know, and get yourself ready for the examination.

Here, I'll tell you seven (7) smart things every student should do the night before an exam.


1. Revise Key Points, Not the Whole Textbook

No. It's not the time to start reading your entire textbook from the beginning. Doing this can overwhelm your mind and create unnecessary confusion.

Instead, focus on:

-Key concepts

-Important definitions

-Summaries of major topics

-Points your lecturer emphasized in class

Your goal should be revision, not fresh learning. Is that clear?


2. Review Past Questions

Past questions are extremely valuable the night before an exam. They help you see the pattern of questions and remind you of the important areas to focus on.

Try to:

-Go through past questions

-Check how questions are usually structured

-Practice answering a few questions

This will improve your confidence and prepare you mentally for the exam.


3. Organize Your Materials

Before going to bed, ensure that everything you need for the exam is ready.

Prepare:

-Your pen(s)

-Pencil and eraser

-Calculator (if needed)

-Identification (ID) card

-Any required materials

Doing this will help you avoid unnecessary stress in the morning.


4. Avoid Panic Reading

Some students start rushing through many topics out of fear that they may fail. This type of reading often leads to confusion.

Remember that a calm mind remembers better. Focus on what you already know and strengthen it instead of trying to learn everything at once. Take things one step at a time. Patient reading will help you cover more than panic reading.


5. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is extremely important before an exam. When you sleep, your brain processes and stores information that you studied.

Students who stay awake all night often experience:

Poor concentration

Memory lapses

Mental fatigue

A good night's sleep (or even if it's just for a few hours) helps you think clearly during the exam.

However, if because of what you must cover, you decide to stay awake all night, no problems. But make out at least a few minutes to rest your head and sleep a little. Remember to set your alarms for this, so you don't sleep into the exam time.

Or just get to the hall early and take a little nap.

6. Stay Positive

Don't doubt yourself. Avoid negative thoughts like “I will fail” or “I don’t know anything.”

Instead, encourage yourself and remember the effort you have already made.

Confidence can greatly improve your performance.


7. Pray and Commit Your Efforts to God

Remember to pray and commit your preparation and your exam to God. 

Prayer brings peace, reduces anxiety, and strengthens your confidence.

However, remember that prayer works best when it is combined with preparation and discipline. Work and pray.

The night before an exam should be used wisely. Instead of panic or confusion, use the time to revise important points, prepare your materials, rest your mind, and strengthen your confidence.

Remember that exams do not only test what you know; they also test how calm and prepared you are.
