(Ep. 31) TEN REASONS TO TAKE YOUR STUDIES SERIOUSLY

I have heard many students say that school is a scam. As a result, they toy with their studies while in the higher institutions. And this is even fueled by the myriads of distractions faced around the school environment and also by the fact that they are far from parental monitoring or guidance.

However, I have said it before that every student must do their best to take their studies seriously. This cannot be over emphasized.

I'll be giving you 10 reasons why you must be serious with your academics, now that you are a student.

Here are the reasons:

1. Solid Foundation

You still have a long way to go in your chosen career. And even if you do not settle in the field you are currently studying, taking your studies seriously will help solidify your foundation.

2. Better Employability

As a student who finishes with good grades, you have a better chance of being hired in better-paying jobs than people who didn't do well in school. In fact the first job I got after my NYSC, was from a firm where there was no vacancy. My employer was so impressed with my CV and my grades that he had to employ me.

3. Sharpens Your Critical Thinking Skills

Beyond passing exams, your studies help develop you critical thinking and analytical skills. This is an advantage in the labour market.

4. Better Access to Opportunities

Taking your academics seriously can suit you better to get scholarships, fellowships, research grants, and other opportunities

5. You Earn More.

Research has shown that students who graduate with higher grades tend to earn more than others with lower grades because they tend to attract higher paying jobs than others.

6. Improved Life Skills.

Being serious with your academics helps you acquire certain life skills that will help you in future. For example, time management, discipline, waking up early, being able to set priorities right, etc. in fact, I like to see the Campus environment as a training ground.

7. Valuable Connections

Taking your academics seriously gets you the right connections. People see you as a serious minded person and want to associate with you. If you manage this we'll, you may amass all the necessary connections needed to climb to the peak of your career.

8. Personal Satisfaction

Finishing with good grades gives you some personal pride and satisfaction. This is better experienced than explained, actually

9. You Make Your Parents Proud.

I have seen my parents proud of themselves with my academic feats. This makes me personally happy. You should make your parents proud. They're worth it.

10. Improved Self Esteem and Confidence

Your confidence and self esteem is boosted when you take your academics seriously. You become better aware of what you can achieve when you put your mind to anything. The importance of this cannot be over emphasized.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Many people who didn't take their academics seriously, when they were students, are regretting it today. They wish they could have another opportunity to right their wrong. Unfortunately, it's too late. Don't be among them

"Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men."; Proverbs 22:29

Now that you are a student, take your academics seriously.
