(Ep 55) Campus Life: 7 Things That Can Dim Your Star in Campus
'You are a star!'
Has anyone ever told you this? How old were you when you first heard this
I think first heard this statement as an undergraduate in the Campus at the Watchman Campus Fellowship, where I belonged.
I just can't agree less.
I am a star. You, too, are a star
Every person made by God is actually a star. Everyone is uniquely designed by God to shine. S.H.I.N.E. And that, everywhere you go.
University life is a beautiful season filled with opportunities, friendships, growth, and self-discovery. It’s a time when you can truly shine. Here you get the opportunity to develop your gifts, pursue purpose, and prepare for the future God has planned for you. In fact, Campus life is meant to refine you to shine brighter
But just like a bright star can lose its glow, there are certain habits and choices that can dim your light on campus. Let’s look at just seven of them.
1. Cultism
Cultism is one of the fastest ways to destroy your life and destiny on campus. Many students are lured by the false promise of power, protection, or belonging. But behind those promises are fear, violence, regret and even premature death. Cultism doesn’t make you stronger. It rather, enslaves you.
Stay away from secret societies and choose to stand for peace, for excellence, for integrity and for divine purpose.
2. Your Company
The friends you keep will either lift you or limit you. If your closest friends don’t inspire you to grow academically, spiritually, and morally, then you’re in the wrong circle. Surround yourself with people who share your values and vision. Iron sharpens iron. Make friends with people who sharpen you all round, not those who will dim your star.
3. Laziness
Campus life gives you freedom, but freedom without discipline will lead you to failure. Many students waste precious hours sleeping, scrolling through social media, or doing nothing meaningful. Laziness can rob you of academic excellence, leadership potential, success, and even destiny. Work hard, stay organized, and remember that diligence always pays off.
4. Sexual Immorality
Your body is God’s temple, not a playground for sin. Sexual immorality — whether through fornication, pornography, cohabitation, ungodly relationships, etc. — can destroy focus, confidence, peace of mind and your relationship with God. It also leaves you a future filled with regrets, exposes you to STDs, unwanted pregnancies and the resultant abortion. Remember that abortion is murder according to God's standard. True strength does not lie in yielding to temptation, but in saying no and keeping yourself pure. God will help you.
5. Procrastination
The habit of “I’ll do it later” has ruined many destinies. Assignments pile up, goals remain unachieved, and dreams fade because of constant delay. Don’t wait for the perfect time. Start now. A disciplined student plans ahead, sets priorities, and takes action daily. Small consistent steps lead to big results.
6. Drugs and Alcohol
Some students think drugs and alcohol make them bold or help them escape stress. They say, it makes them high. In reality, they destroy mental clarity, their health, and their reputation. This has become a menace amongst our youths today.
Many brilliant students have lost their focus, grades, and even their lives through substance abuse. You don’t need drugs to feel high. You need to give your life to Jesus to feel the real 'high'. Jesus can break the chain of addiction if you yield to Him.
7. Doing Life Without Jesus
At the center of it all, the biggest mistake any student can make is trying to do life without Jesus. Jesus remains the answer for the world today. You start discovering why you were born on this earth the day you give your life to Jesus. This is done by confessing your sins to him and believing that he died to set you free.
Jesus gives meaning to your education, direction to your goals, and strength for every challenge. Without Him, you may succeed on the surface but fail in the things that truly matter.
Let Jesus be your guide. Walk with Him daily, and your star will never go dim.
In Conclusion
Campus life is a training ground for destiny. Guard your heart. Make wise choices. Let your light shine bright for Christ.
The choices you make today determine where you'll be tomorrow.
