(Ep. 36) How to Start Becoming Like Dangote as a Student: 10 Strategic Steps

Wow...!

I can't believe that I'm teaching you this for FREE!

I know that you have had dreams of being successful and very wealthy or at least being able to have a comfortable life where you can afford all your needs and wants and those of your family and loved ones. That's a good dream

Everybody has that dream but sadly, only a few persons start preparing for it early. This article will teach you how to start preparing to become legitimately wealthy and successful like Dangote, Africa's richest man.

Now, here are 10 strategic steps with which you can start being on the path to financial success and freedom:

1. Change Your Mindset: From Spender to Builder

You must start now to develop the right mindset to becoming rich. First, it's not sinful to be wealthy. God wants us to become wealthy.

Secondly, start thinking like a builder of wealth, not a spender. Stop thinking of how you can spend and spend more and more money. Rather start thinking of how you can multiply the money that comes into your hand.

Money can help you learn a skill, build your knowledge, sell something etc. Money is not only for eating shawarma.

Ask yourself daily: “How can this ₦1000 or this one hour make me better?”

2. Improve your Financial Literacy

What do you know about money? Sadly, schools today don't teach you about money. As a student, you must take the extra effort to learn about money. Read books, both online and offline, to boost your financial literacy.

Here are a few books you can start with:
"The Richest Man in Babylon", "The Millionaire Mindset", "The Rich Dad, Poor Dad", "Sell Like Crazy", "The Intelligent Investor", etc.

The good thing is that many of these book can be downloaded for free. A few others can be purchased with just little money.

Also read about wealthy people like Bill Gates, Dangote, Elon Musk, etc., or watch documentaries about them, like "Inside Bill's Brain", "The Men Who Built America", etc

You can also take free online courses such as,  Google Hustle Academy, Coursera’s business and leadership courses, LinkedIn Learning’s entrepreneurship lessons. Learn a skill.

The aim of these is so that when you graduate, you don't just come out with only a certificate, but also a financially literate and business mindset

3. Multiply Your Money: Start Small, But Start Now

Sell something on campus. It could be that you offer to sell foodstuff to your fellow students. You get it cheaper somewhere and sell with your profit. You could sell data, sell books, etc. You just need an initiative. Think. Start NOW.

Offer a service like making their hair, tutoring, design, writing. Or start a small online business.

Test your ideas, learn from your mistakes. Grow. Where you are now is your training ground. Start now and make it work.

4. Increase Your Connections:

A tree cannot make a forest.

The person who will connect you to your riches tomorrow could be that your classmate who doesn't look like it now. Get people's contacts and save them. Let them save yours too. But, more importantly, build relationships, not just contacts.

Treat people well, even when they don't deserve it. Let it be that when they meet you again in 10 years time, they have a good memory of you.

Be reliable and trustworthy. Have integrity. Network with ambitious classmates and mentors. Join clubs, volunteer at events, and participate in entrepreneurship programs.

5. Learn Savings and Investment

No matter how little your allowances are, save something. If you can't save when the money you get is small, you won't be able to save when the allowance increases. I bet you.

Decide from today to save at least 10–20% of your income. You can use apps like PiggyVest or Cowrywise to automate saving.

Reinvest your profits into something that grows your skills, knowledge or business.

You can’t become like Dangote if you keep spending like a broke student.

6. Build Character, Integrity and Discipline

Character, integrity and disciplines are worth more than money. Don't joke with them. Be the person who keeps promises, delivers value, and stays consistent. Avoid shortcuts — they might make you rich fast, but they make you poorer in the long run. Have a strong reputation.

Stay away from fraud and online scams

7. Dream Big, Act Daily

Write down your dream and start acting in it Now. Act in it daily. So what's your dream.

For example, " In 10 years time, I want to own a fashion industry where we make dresses for Nigerians and where I will have 100 persons working for me"

Write down your dream. Then write down things you will do daily to reach that goal in 10 years.

Start with, "This month, I'll finish reading 2 financial books (State the titles), then, from next month, I will join Mrs Sarah's fashion shop every weekend to learn fashion skills, etc"

8. Be a Giver, Be a Helper

Learn to offer help when people ask for it. Or even when they do not but you know they need it. Don't be stingy. Don't get tired of helping your neighbour with food and other items when you have them. (Be wise in doing this though). They could be the one to lift you up tomorrow. If they don't, God lifts up the hand that gives.

Remember that "The giver's hand will always be on top"

9. Be like the Jews: One of The World's Most Successful Race

Have you ever wondered why many successful entrepreneurs have Jewish backgrounds? Examples include, Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook), Larry Page (founder of Google), etc. Some people say it's partly tied to their early habit of learning the Scriptures practically.

The Bible has a way of opening one's brain and influencing your thought pattern. I tell you. In fact, all the principles I stated above are in the Bible. Make it a daily habit to read the Bible, at least one verse a day.

Knowing God is an extra advantage. God gives grace to make wealth. Have you given your life to Christ. You can do that now.

10. Don't Let Your Academic Suffer

This is very important. The aim of this article is not to shift your focus from studies to solely finances. No. You must prioritize your education. Your education is the edge you have over those who do not have education. School is not a scam.

Get educated. Get your degrees. But also come out with a business mindset.

I hope that with these few points of mine, I have been able to convince you and not to confuse you that you can be a student and still be in the path of becoming like Dangote

"Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men."; Proverbs 22:29

Let's meet at the top.
